- Harassment
-
Creditors often try any tactics they think they can get away with in pursuit of a debt and will occasionally resort to harassment techniques that are legally questionable at best.
If, as a debtor, you feel that a creditor is overstepping the mark and causing undue harassment, it is important to remember that you still have rights. The first thing to remember is to RECORD ALL CONTACT with the creditor and/or their representatives as soon as you feel that their actions have become unacceptable. The Office of Fair Trading has very strict guidelines regarding debt retrieval, and actions such as misrepresentation of authority, deception, threats, attempts to make money from you or high-pressure tactics when you are sick or otherwise vulnerable are all considered unacceptable.
If you are distressed by the actions of someone to whom you owe money, please contact us in confidence.
